GrunerPottery  > In the Studio > Raku Firing
This Spring I took a pottery class led by John Jensen at St. John's College. At the end of the class we had a raku firing by College Creek with the rowing teams practicing in the background. John brought 3 or 4 kilns; I had built my own kiln (with John's help) and brought it along.

GrunerPottery > This photo was taken at a more recent firing. It is the view looking into the kiln from the top. The glaze on this piece has started to melt and bubble; it will have to stay in a little longer until the glaze smooths out.
The small wire hanging down is a temperature probe, but checking the progress of the glaze is more important than watching the temperature.
GrunerPottery > If the glaze colors don't turn out right, you can re-fire. It's possible to improve the glaze, but you run the risk of cracking.
